M-ONE The M-One is an integrated amplifier and DAC with Bluetooth. With technology stemming from multi-award winning products, the M-ONE is a true high-fidelity DAC and amplifier in one system. On-board connections include 2 RCA inputs and Coaxial and Optical inputs. There are also USB inputs on board – firstly a USB A that works for iOS device playback and docking. The second USB B terminal, works for PC and Mac. Similarly to the M-DAC+, the M-ONE USB B operates with 32-bit/384 kHz playback; this is a far higher specification than that required by current hi-res music formats, ensuring this new, premium-quality addition to the M-DAC family is fully equipped for future advances in ultra-high-definition digital sound. The USB input now also accepts DSD files (the digital audio system originally developed for Super Audio CD), offering compatibility with DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256. This is a significant addition, as DSD has an important role to play in the developing high-resolution digital download scene. The on-board DAC utilises the ESS9018 K2M DAC. This is surrounded by signature Audiolab circuitry including a proprietary, discrete master clock to minimise jitter, coupled with extensive time domain isolation. Using the highest quality components for the output stage ensures that the audio signal, following conversion from the digital domain to analogue, is of a high standard. Using audiophile grade class AB amplification M-ONE generates up to 60 W at 4 Ohms; ample power for small to medium hi-fi speakers. The OLED display window is centrally positioned and flanked by two rotary controls, one to adjust volume and the other to select settings – like all Audiolab products, the MOne evokes a simplistic yet modern styling with a focus on ease of use. Available in fine textured aluminium finish (black and silver), the M-ONE will fit beautifully into any living space. QUAD Z-SERIES Unlike conventional dome treble units, where the voice coil ‚motor‘ is attached separately to the diaphragm, Z Series ribbon is both the diaphragm and the motor system. The result is a unique combination of delicacy, smoothness and hear-through performance that helps make music sing. In the Z Series floorstanders this advanced ribbon unit is married to an equally high performance midrange driver with a unique double-roll-surround especially designed to control edge breakup and give equal transparency to the all important vocal range. Both midrange and bass drivers feature Quad’s woven Kevlar cone geometry, now matched by the double-roll-surround for the same smoothness and clarity offered by the ribbon treble unit. The bass section, similar to the original Corner Ribbon, utilizes an acoustic filter bass reflex system that maintains the natural and unforced reproduction right down to the lowest frequencies of a symphony orchestra. The skilfully hand veneered cabinets don’t need to be described as one look at the images, here, will give you a taste of how the Z Series furniture quality woodwork will look in your living room. Quad Z Series – beautiful performance and looks combined, for ‚The Closest Approach to the Original Sound‘. VA-ONE In principle the QUAD VA-One follows the legendary approach set by founder, Peter Walker, to bring ‚The Closest Approach to the Original Sound‘ into your home by using exemplary circuit design with high quality component selection and precision build quality. What sets VA-One apart is its integration of classic valve amplification with the ability to use a multitude of sources, both analogue and digital. For connections you’re spoilt for choice – users can choose to play analogue devices via the gold-plated RCA terminals or digital devices with playback up to 192 kHz via the optical and coaxial inputs. There is also a 6.3 mm jack headphone output for discrete use. Furthering its digital connections, provisions for use of computers, tablet devices and mobile phones have been made: The VA-One also has a USB B input for Mac/PC (with playback of up to 192 kHz) and a wireless Bluetooth input. Using the aptX codec, even via Bluetooth sound quality is not compromised, reproducing the full audio bandwidth in exquisite detail. Both analogue and decoded digital sources are fed to the integrated valve amplifier which utilises an ECC83 high impedance triode as the preamplifier, feeding an ECC82 twin triode driver and phase splitter stage. The output stage uses 2 EL84 pentodes in push-pull to deliver 15 W RMS per channel into nominal 6 Ohm loads (matching the majority of modern loudspeakers). As well as providing the musically transparent and immersive sound typical of classic valves, the performance is highly detailed without the unwanted coloration that you would often associate with inferior valve amplification thanks to the highly specified output transformers. With a continued theme of convenience, a remote control is included for source select, Bluetooth pairing and volume control – operating the large motorised potentiometer on the front panel. Also on the front panel are robust source select and Bluetooth pairing controls housed within a compact Lancaster Grey finished chassis – classically Quad in styling. The VA-One couples the elegance of valve topology with digital audio for an animated performance, on every device. WHARFEDALE DIAMOND SERIES DIAMOND ACTIVE A1 For over 30 years, The Wharfedale Diamond Series has been the go-to speaker for entry level, high-fidelity sound. Praised for articulated performance at an affordable price, Diamond 200 series has won multiple awards, with „What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision“ commenting on its sound quality as „Agile, far-reaching dynamics; overflowing with detail“ (Diamond 220 – March 2015). With such a rich history of high performance combined with affordability, Wharfedale proudly present the Diamond Active A1. The new wireless bookshelf speakers incorporate everything music fans love about Diamond series into an easy to use package, equipped to cater for a wealth of audio sources with an innovative approach to wireless technology. A HUB FOR YOUR MUSIC Unlike other wireless and active speakers where controls and inputs are often placed awkwardly on the back panel, Wharfedale engineers have developed a unique hub, which works as the central console for your music. The Diamond Hub features optical, coaxial and RCA inputs on the rear panel with an additional Bluetooth aptX connection for wireless integration of laptops, smart phones and tablet devices. It’s controlled gracefully via the touch sensitive display, or for even more convenience you can use the included remote. Once connected to your source, the Hub works independently from the speakers using the 5.2 GHz/5.8 GHz wireless frequency band. Place it on your TV stand, desktop, or wherever you want, without the worry of speaker placement and trailing wires inbetween the units. HIGH-FIDELITY OVER WIRELESS To ensure the same high standard of sound as conventional wired hi-fi components, Wharfedale engineers have utilised an advanced wireless module, operating on the 5.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency band. While avoiding the often crowded 2.4 GHz band, the Diamond Active system is able to switch intelligently between bands, guaranteeing minimal interference, wherever your speakers may be placed. Additionally, the DAC is built around a high performance 24 bit chipset delivering a CDlike quality from all devices. ADDITIONAL CONTROL FOR OPTIMAL PLACEMENT While the Hub makes day-to-day use of the system a breeze, additional room settings are available on the rear panel of the speaker. A +/-6 dB bass control works to adjust the system for personal preference and for optimum room placement, for instance placing the speakers near a wall. Engineers have also added a mono mode, which is ideal for when unconventional speaker placements are used – you can place the speakers anywhere in your living area and still enjoy a thrilling sound. A REAL DIAMOND The speakers use the same drivers as seen in the award-winning Diamond 220. Wharfedale’s signature woven Kevlar cone incorporates semi-elliptical ‚break-up‘ areas which smooth the response throughout the audible range. The treble unit uses an advanced ferrite magnet system and carefully constructed waveguide around the fabric dome for optimal dispersion. While this is identical as seen in the Diamond 220, the cabinet has been tailored for the convenience-themed technology within. A rear-tuned bass port system means engineers were able to reduce the cabinet volume – more akin to those seeking an allin-one easy to use system. Cabinet edges have been stylishly rounded and wrapped in luxurious black leatherette with a high-gloss front baffle available in black or white finish options. WHARFEDALE REVA SERIES Reva is the latest range of audiophile standard speakers from Wharfedale, the most famous name in British loudspeakers. Reva is designed from the ground up to offer state-of-the-art tonal accuracy and musical detail. Within Reva’s fashionably curved panels are special layers of wood composites, which reduce the sonic character of the cabinets to a level where it cannot be heard below the sound from the drive units. Research and development was heavily focused on developing this combination of materials which is a new, premium version of Wharfedale’s composite layer as found in the award winning Diamond 200 series. While incorporating a premium cabinet style and structure, Reva Series also utilises signature Wharfedale technology with a slot-loaded port design. In Reva the internal high pressure in the interior cabinet port is balanced by the pressure loading of a slot formed between the cabinet and plinth. This not only reduces the distortion that is typically found in bass reflex ported systems but also increases its efficiency. The result is that Reva speakers are easier to position in the room for a deep, powerful but controlled bass performance that maintains the accuracy necessary for transient impact and articulation. Musical accuracy and articulation is also carried through to the midrange by bass/midrange driver cones that incorporate a bi-directional weave of Kevlar that is naturally self-damping to reduce and distribute resonances to virtually negligible levels. These cones are mounted in a special alloy, cast chassis to ensure dynamic rigidity. A fixed, profiled phase plug ensures a smooth acoustic roll-off to enhance integration with the treble unit. A new, fine weave textile dome, with critically damped coating, has been chosen for the 25 mm treble unit, powered by a neodymium magnet fitted with a finned heatsink to reduce dynamic compression. This unit offers excellent bandwidth, with a smooth response from 2 kHz to above 20 kHz, and is mounted on a subtly dished waveguide that enhances dispersion. These advanced drivers are combined, acoustically, with a precision crossover utilizing Linkwitz-Riley slopes calculated using Wharfedale’s advanced Computer Aided Optimization techniques. The final crossovers are the result of hundreds of hours of fine tuning using a variety of music to ensure that Reva speakers meet the requirements of audiophiles the world over. Finally each Reva speaker is hand-finished by Wharfedale’s cabinet craftsmen with multiple layers of polished lacquer to achieve a high gloss finish that complements any interior design, available in Piano Black, Piano White and Piano Deep Rosewood. This combination of beautiful finish and sonic excellence will ensure that the owner will be proud to own Reva – truly a work of art.
