The Booster
Calvary United Methodist Church
June 2015
Lead me not into temptation… God knows those things
that must be especially aware of their tempting of me. And
I pray for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to strengthen
my resistance by making me aware of the negative
consequences.
As you can see, it takes me a lot longer to pray this prayer
when I make it personal.
--------------------------------
Most every Sunday we recite the “Lord’s Prayer” together.
But have you ever used it as a base from which you make it
very personable? I do that on a regular basis. Let me put it
down the way we usually use it Sunday morning.
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us
our trespasses as I forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory
forever. Amen.
My personalized version goes something like this:
My Father who is in heaven….. and then I add what I’m
thankful for and what comes as my need to praise God for
all that God is doing and has done in my life.
Your will be done….. I speak about the things I’m
concerned about and in my searching, begin surrendering
those things to God. Your will be done in my life, in these
circumstances, in every choice and decision that I must
make.
Give me this day my daily bread ….. becomes Lord grant
me this day the things that I need, and the contentment to
not be consumed with the things I don’t need. Sometimes
there are specific things that God points out that are “wants”
not needs and my need is to let them go to God’s timing and
provision.
Forgive me my sins…. And I am specific as to those I’m
aware of and need forgiveness.
As I forgive those who sin against me. Here too, I become
specific as possible, naming the persons and what I see,
from my perspective, to have happened. Forgiveness is the
choice I make. It helps then for me to pray for those
persons in a positive way, as difficult as it may be at time.
We want to congratulate the new graduates. Danielle
Dukarski from South Side and Alex Taylor from
Snider. Good Luck, now go chase your dreams!!

Music Sunday June 7, 2015
“Come to the Music’ is the theme of this year’s Music
Sunday. The worship service will be dedicated to music
and its ability to inspire and communicate faith, truth, and
praise. The major parts of the worship service will be led
through music. The service will include The Gathering,
The Time for Prayer, We Share with Others, We listen to
hear God’s Voice, and We go Out to Serve. The music
selections are representative of the best our time has to
offer; Joseph Martin, Lloyd Larson; Joel Raney, and Mary
McDonald. As Joseph Martin puts it, “Celebrate!
Celebrate! Come to the Music!” Come join us- You’ll be
glad you did.
Also in the June 7th Sunday service we will celebrate our
two graduates, Danielle Dukarski from South Side High
School and Alex Taylor from Snider High School.

The Scouts are having Miami Day Camp June 29, 30,
and July 1st. They will be using the outside campus
and the Fellowship Hall and Kitchen, and Scout room.
Sunday, May 24th, is the Day of Pentecost. On the 50th
day of Easter we celebrate the Spirit, through whom
and in whom the people of God are created and recreated. Pentecost is sometimes called the church’s
birthday, but might be more appropriately called its
baptism day, since the gift of the Spirit is the fullness
of baptism. The scripture tells us in Romans 8:22-27
that by pouring the Holy Spirit into our hearts, God
gives us the promised first fruit of eternal life so that
we await God’s future in hope. In the celebration of
the Day of Pentecost, you are encouraged to come to
worship wearing something red. Come worship with
us- you’ll be glad you did!
A huge Thank You from the Northeast District Lay
Servant Academy. It is good to showcase our church,
and we were thanked for our radical hospitality. To all
who cleaned, set up tables and chairs, played music,
served food and welcomed people, I want to know you
are greatly appreciated. To the people of Calvary,
please know our offering of our church is appreciated.
Ginger Booker
Thank you everyone for the nice flowers, gifts,
chocolates and cards I have been receiving from many
of you from our church. They mean so much to me
and I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate you
thinking of me. I am still in
the rehab section of Coventry Meadows but hope to be
able to regain my strength so I can get back to my
apartment across the street. Thank you again for your
thoughtfulness. God Bless you all.

Blessed Be Baseball
Tom Walsh, of Sebring, writes: Most historians give
Abner Doubleday credit for inventing the game of
baseball. However, baseball goes back to biblical time
and is well documented in various parts of the Bible.

pitcher”

Happy Father's Day
A Dad is a person
who is loving and kind,
And often he knows
what you have on your mind.
He's someone who listens,
suggests, and defends
A dad can be one
of your very best friends!
He's proud of your triumphs
but when things go wrong
A dad can be patient
and helpful and strong.
In all that you do,
a dad's love plays a part
There's always a place for him
deep in your heart.
And each year that passes
You're even more glad,
More grateful and proud
just to call him your dad!
Thank you, Dad .
for listening and caring
for giving and sharing
but, especially, for just being you!
Happy Father's Day
