Science Digital Agenda Ms. Thames (Grade 6) –January 28th, 29th & 31st 2014 Essential question: Why is thermal energy important in transferring heat? California standard: Heat moves in a predictable flow from warmer objects to cooler objects until all the objects are at the same temperature. As a basis for understanding this concept: ES.3.c: Students know heat flows in solids by conduction (which involves no flow of matter) and in fluids by conduction and by convection (which involves flow of matter). Proving Behavior: Students will identify and compare the different ways thermal energy transfers heat. Today’s learning objective – What is my goal? Students will explain how thermal energy transferres heat from one material to another. Tuesday: What is thermal energy? Wednesday: Complete the sentences: An example of heat transfer through conduction is when… An example of heat transfer through radiation is when… Friday: Unscramble the word and use in a sentence to show meaning: thermal conductor, thermal insulator and Convection current Direct instruction Tuesday: -Bruno Mars: Thermal Energy Song -Cinch Lesson: Thermal Energy Transfers -H.W.: Key Concept Builder page 38 Wednesday: -Complete Cinch Lesson: Thermal Energy Transfers H.W.: Content Practice B Friday: -Review Practice Quiz Lesson Misconceptions: Discussion and Promote Understanding Activity H.W.: Concept Extension: Enrichment Guided Practice Tuesday: -Science Probes: Cool it! -Using sentence frames to write explanation.
