APPLICATION FOR ENROLLMENT ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND POLICY SPECIALIZATION The Environmental Science and Policy Program offers an environmental science policy specialization to students pursuing a doctoral degree at Michigan State University. The Specialization provides students with an understanding of the diverse disciplines brought to bear on contemporary environmental problems. It is designed to provide an understanding of how various disciplines conceptualize environmental issues and how scientific information can be brought to bear on environmental decision-making and environmental policy. Requirements for the Doctoral Specialization in Environmental Science and Policy: Complete a total of 12 credits from the following: Environmental Science and Policy Program 274 Giltner Hall Michigan State University 293 Farm Lane East Lansing, MI 48824 517-432-8296 Fax: 517-432-8830 environment.msu.edu ESP 800: Introduction to Environmental Science and Policy ESP 801: Physical, Chemical and Biological Process of the Environment. Or one of the following approved substitutes: o CSUS/ESP/FW 851: Modeling Natural Resources System o ZOL/FW/PLB 897: Ecosystem Ecology and Global Change ESP 802: Human Systems and the Environment. Or one of the following approved substitutes: o SOC 869: Community and Conservation o CSUS 824: Sustainable Development: Measuring Socioeconomic Well-being ESP 804: Environmental Applications or Analysis. Or one of the following: o FW 868: Water Policy and Management o An approved capstone project. ESPP students are also required to present their work before their peers before completing their doctoral degree. Completion of an examination consisting of a paper on the environmental policy aspects of a problem selected by the student and approved by the advisor for the specialization. To apply for the specialization, please fill out the attached form and include the following: A letter describing your goals and interests in environmental science and policy. A Curriculum Vitae A letter of reference from your Graduate Advisor that you are in good standing in your program and the advisor supports your application to ESPP.
