Position Title: Men’s Wellness Project Coordinator Walnut Way Conservation Corp. 2240 N 17th Street Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53205 414.264.2326 www.walnutway.org Reports to: Neighborhood Program Coordinator for the Lindsay Heights Initiative Full Time: 32 - 40 hours per week (.80 FTE - 1.00 FTE) - depending on qualifications Limited Term: November 2013 – July 2016 Position Summary: The Project Coordinator coordinates the activities of the “No Longer an Island: Creating a Men’s Place-based Peer Outreach and Social Support Network” project, a Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families funded grant, to ensure deliverables are met. The project is a community-academic partnership designed to implement a peer outreach and leadership network in the Lindsay Heights Neighborhood to strengthen social support of African American fathers and men and increase community and family engagement. The Project Coordinator will facilitate the grant implementation with the aim of reducing stress in African American men to increase their ability to engage with their families and ultimately improve birth outcomes. Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator will work with project team members with the following. Core Duties and Responsibilities: • • • • • • Identify and catalogue local assets that exist to support men and families in the Lindsay Heights Neighborhood Hold quarterly meetings with organizations who serve men to strengthen a partnership network, update on progress, and create linkages between organizations Conduct weekly porch-to-porch outreach with the Community Wellness Navigator to build relationships with men, conduct follow-up, and engage men in peer support network. Establish 3 new men’s peer groups populated by men recruited from a Porch-to-Porch campaign, partner organizations, and referrals from participants Convene monthly Men’s Wellness Council meetings to guide project and lead peer communication campaign, and collect and archive all Men’s Wellness Council meeting schedules, attendance, and agendas Coordinate a neighborhood media campaign on Men's Wellness based on project participant feedback Other Duties and Responsibilities: • • • Support academic partners in the collection of evaluation data Seek out community leaders, persuade and mobilize them to participate in Men’s Wellness Council, neighborhood, and Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families activities Hire and orient Community Wellness Navigator (CWN) to lead efforts to engage men through Peer-to-peer outreach. Train CHN in community organizing skills, motivational interviewing, evaluation data collection, and other needs as identified. • • • • • Lead and document weekly debriefing meetings with the Community Health Navigator to reflect on what is learned in the field and modify protocol as needed Develop outreach protocol including introductory script, engagement tools and outreach materials Participate in Lifecourse Collaborative meetings and activities to strengthen communication and connection with citywide efforts Support the dissemination of project lessons learned Perform other related duties as required or assigned Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience Experience working with men in Milwaukee central city communities Minimum of 3 years experience in project coordination Proven ability to work in a collaboration on community-based projects Computer, spreadsheet and word processing skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to work independently with good attention to detail and time management skills Demonstrated skills in creative problem-solving Willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends if needed Residents of the Lindsay Height’s neighborhoods (zip codes 53205 or 53206) and Milwaukee’s near North side will receive strong consideration; however, residency is not required.
