9th International Conference on Tetrapyrrole Photoreceptors in Photosynthetic Organisms (ICTPPO-2009)
Asilomar Conference Center
Monterey, CA July 26-31, 2009
WELCOME PAGE
Welcome to the Web site of the 9th International Conference on Tetrapyrrole Photoreceptors in Photosynthetic
Organisms. ICTPPO-2009 will be held at the Asilomar Conference Center in Monterey, CA July 26-31, 2009 –
directly following the American Society for Plant Biology Meeting July 18-22, 2009 in Honolulu, Hawaii
http://www.aspb.org/meetings/pb-2009/. Asilomar Conference Center http://www.visitasilomar.com/ is located
on the Pacific coastline of the Monterey Peninsula approximately 120 miles south of San Francisco CA.
Summer weather is considerably more pleasant, i.e. cooler than that in Davis.
ICTPPO-2009 will be of interest to biochemists, biophysicists, spectroscopists, microbiologists, plant biologists
and organic chemists who among who study tetrapyrroles and their diverse roles in photosynthesis, respiration,
catalysis, and development in photosynthetic organisms. Like past conferences, we expect controversial and
provocative discussions on new insights into these molecules of color at ICTPPO-2009. Dr. Paul Castelfranco,
the founding organizer of ICTPPO, will be our honored guest and attendee. ICTPPO-2009 is the ninth in a
series of ad hoc conferences on this topic. Since the first conference held at University of California Davis in
1991, seven other conferences have been held worldwide including Freising, Germany (1995), Blarney, Ireland
(1997), Lucca, Italy (1999), Providence, Rhode Island USA (2001), Passau, Germany (2003), Nottwil,
Switzerland (2005) and Kyoto, Japan (2007). We strive to make this ICTPPO as scientifically rewarding and
pleasurable as the earlier ones.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION PAGE
Registration for the 9th ICTPPO will commence on Sunday afternoon July 26th followed by an evening
reception and (hopefully) a bonfire on the beach. Posters will be on display for the entire meeting at the back of
the conference room. There will be two formal poster sessions, one free afternoon for site-seeing, networking or
relaxation, a Kendama contest and a banquet on Thursday evening. The conference proceedings will conclude
after breakfast on Friday July 31st and chartered limousine service to San Francisco International (and possibly
San Jose International) Airports will be arranged.
Each session will be preceded by a plenary talk by an invited luminary, followed by shorter oral talks selected
from the abstracts of applicants. Potential sessions will include among others: Structural Biology of Antenna
Systems & Photosynthetic Reaction Centers, Ultrafast Studies on Photosynthetic & Photosensory Sensors,
Bioinspired Intelligent Design for Photon Energy Capture, Tetrapyrrole Pigment Synthesis, Biosynthesis &
Turnover, Tetrapyrroles & Developmental Regulation and Artificial Photosynthesis and Photoelectric Energy
Conversion.
Conference registration fees will consist of……
