Postwar Europe Map Instructions
Remember to label your map in PEN and use only colored pencils to shade.
I. On the “Europe after World War II” map complete the following, using pages 890-891:
A. List the 12 nations that originally joined NATO below. Then label the 10 that are on your
map and shade them BLUE.
B. List the 3 nations that joined NATO shortly after its creation below. Then label them on your
map and shade them PINK.
C. List the 8 nations that made up the Warsaw pact below. Then label them on your map and
shade them RED.
D. Which NATO nations would have been most vulnerable to an attack by the Warsaw Pact
countries?
E. Look at the locations of the states that formed the Warsaw Pact. How does this reflect the
Soviets’ primary motivation in the Cold War? (hint: see p. 886 if you aren’t sure)
II. On the modern “Europe” map, complete the following using pages 949 and 961:
A. Label all of the nations
B. Shade the EU members GREEN. Croatia has joined since the textbook was printed, so
include it in your shading.
