As editor of this award winning venture featuring creator owned work from the UK, China,
France, Belgium, USA, Spain, Italy and New Zealand, my primary responsibilities were
rewriting copy, recommending new artists and keeping creators on schedule.
Achievements



Establishing a balance between high profile and new creators on the innovative digital
comic anthology Aces Weekly, co-founded with David Lloyd.
Learning and becoming proficient in Content Curator within two weeks and acting as
the web-site designers’ key contact during Aces Weekly's first year.
Developing expertise in the execution and timely despatch of licensed character work.
Editor, Marvel UK
1993-1994
As an editor at Marvel my responsibilities included commissioning creators and keeping them
on schedule. I worked with a wide range of writers and artists on titles, including Codename
Genetix, Dark Angel, and Gene Dogs (full resume on p4). This role was particularly
rewarding as I worked with new talent such as Jim Cheung, Henry Flint and Dave Taylor,
who all went on to success at other companies.

Publisher, Editor Acme Press
1985-87
Acme Press was a co-operative, and I was one of the four co-founders. As publisher/ UK
News editor my responsibilities included: conducting interviews featured writers, designing
and production, commissioning artwork, negotiating and securing new licenses (James Bond),
negotiating co-publishing deals e.g. Eclipse Comics, establishing re-print rights on old
material and editing e.g. Maxwell Magic Cat and Power Comics (full resume on p4).
Achievements

Developing the ability to work with a very limited budget, often finding creator owned
work that Acme could print for little, or no, up-front payment.

Producing Speakeasy, an award winning monthly news magazine.

Working with international publishers to secure re-print rights for Acme’s publications.

1985
Writing scripts for He-Man, She-Ra, Starblazer and Sid’s Snake. During this time I worked
on various fanzines, interspersed with freelance script assignments.


Achieving a foothold in the UK comic market while it was going through a period of
transition from weekly anthology titles to licensed comics.

public in cartoon art. Part of the Sussex Cartoon County party representing the industry at the
Darnetal Festival, near Rouen in the mid-1990s and also an active contributor to Big Draw
events in Sussex via Cartoon County.
Downthetubes Comic Forum
Active contributor to Downthetubes Comics Forum, an on-line site for discussing comic
related issues.
Mentoring
Leo Miskin, who completed a two year Foundation Degree in Animation at Newcastle
College (FDA Animation) at Newcastle College in 2013, joined me for a week’s work
experience from 5thto 9th August 2013. Offering this work experience resulted in Leo
receiving a commission for five animations for the Aces Weekly website.
