1: INTRODUCTION
The key objective of Fair Working Conditions is to promote and independently accredit best
employment practices worldwide. In return for their invaluable collaboration with the FWC
program, participating companies who support and adhere to ILO standards are formally
approved and have the option to promote their compliance via the use of the FWC logo(s).
The objective of this document is to outline the rules and general procedures for the use of
FWC logos.
FWC logos are the intellectual and trademark property of the Fair Working Conditions
organization and may only be used with the express written authorization of FWC and for
periods of time specified by FWC (24 calendar months from date of approval) which are
subject to periodical revalidations.
The logos must be reproduced according to original artwork originals, pantone colours and
proportional logo dimensions provided by FWC. This information is available for registered
users at our website or by emailing; [email protected].
The FWC logos must be displayed independently and may not be altered or incorporated into
another logo/design.
The approved use of logos must be accompanied by a unique reference code provided by FWC
to the participating company which will be used by FWC and other interested parties such as
consumers/clients to track individual company/product approval, validity and renewals of
same where applicable.
The unique reference code should always be printed directly below the corresponding FWC
logo. Users of FWC logos will be registered in a central online database maintained and
updated by the FWC organization; www.fairworkingconditions.ie/database
2: LOGO CLASSIFICATION
Two logos are available for use by participating companies according to the status of the FWC
evaluation/audit process:
PRODUCT APPROVAL LOGO (FWC Green)

valid as Fair Working Employers following a full FWC audit. The FWC Green logo is exclusively
for use on products.
SUPPORTING FWC LOGO (FWC Blue)

valid as Fair Working Employers following a full FWC audit. The FWC Blue logo is exclusively for
corporate use and NOT on products. FWC Supporting Logo may be used on the following:

3: LOGO USE, SPECIAL PERMISSIONS
& LIMITATIONS
3. 1: CATEGORIES
Two categories of companies participate in FWC Approval processes;
(1) SPONSOR COMPANY (hereafter referred to as SPONSOR)
(2) COLLABORATING COMPANY (hereafter referred to as SUPPLIER)
Use of (and the rules for use of) FWC logos differs according to the specific category of the
participating company. Before requesting permission for the use of FWC logos, it is important
that the participating company understands which category applies.
3.2: DEFINITIONS
Please study the following category definitions:
(1) SPONSOR
A SPONSOR is a company or organization which requires or prefers FWC Approval from
its supply chain or own site(s) in the case of product manufacturer. The SPONSOR
promotes and finances the FWC audits conducted at its supplier installations or at its
own plants/factories.
(2) SUPPLIER
A SUPPLIER is a collaborating company or organization which agrees to be subjected to
an FWC audit in order to fulfill the requirements or preferences of a client company
(product or services buyer) at the latter’s cost.
NOTE: Any company may apply for and obtain FWC Approval either unilaterally or as part of an
initiative undertaken by a SPONSOR. It is important to clarify that, from an FWC view point, a
SPONSOR in its capacity of the initiative’s financial investor (the company that covers the audit
costs) is deemed as the owner of the FWC report, findings and final classification and therefore
is entitled to fuller and less restrictive use of the FWC logos than a SUPPLIER whose key benefit
is value added to its commercial relationship with its client.
Ultimately the SPONSOR may grant or deny use of the FWC logo(s) by its suppliers.
Nevertheless, both parties may benefit from use of the FWC logos adhering to the following
rules of use:
3.3: SPONSOR USE
The SPONSOR has the right to use the FWC logos at its discretion within the guidelines stated
in this manual for the products/services supplied by the collaborating supplier.
PRODUCT APPROVAL LOGO (FWC Green)
SUPPORTING FWC LOGO (FWC Blue)
SPONSORS are either major retailers who wish to promote, encourage and ultimately
independently verify best employment practices throughout their supplier chain or
manufacturing companies who independently wish to accredit and publicize their in-house
best practices.
SPONSORS may use either or both logos. Where the SPONSOR is a retailer, SPONSORS have
the right to authorize/request that approved suppliers include FWC Green logo on products on
sale and/or merchandised at its (the SPONSOR’S) outlets. By the same measure, the SPONSOR
may deny the inclusion of the FWC Green logo on products on sale and/or merchandised at its
(the SPONSOR’S) outlets.
SPONSORS are entitled to freely use the SUPPORTING FWC logo in a wide variety of
circumstances:
FWC BLUE LOGO
 Trade Directories
 Corporate Website
 Corporate Stationery (brochures, letterheads, etc)
 In-store Marketing
 Trade Shows & Promotional Events
 Television Advertising
 Public Advertising
 Store/shop Signs
FWC GREEN LOGO
 Products and packaging (branding)
3.4: COLLABORATING COMPANY USE
Collaborating companies (suppliers) are fundamental to the promotion of best employment
practices. They are important key stakeholders in the FWC initiative and our values. The key
commercial benefit for collaborating companies is the preferential status that approval implies
with major clients who are committed to Fair Working Conditions. Reciprocating supplier
companies will have the opportunity to publicly announce their Fair Working Conditions
compliance or collaboration under the following circumstances:
3.4.(i) DEFINITIONS, PRODUCT SPECIFIC & GENERIC:
There are 2 classifications of approval; Product Specific and Generic:
PRODUCT SPECIFIC: This refers to approval for a product or products which are subjected to
FWC audit at the request of a SPONSOR and with the agreement of the SUPPLIER.
GENERIC: This refers to a request for approval by a SUPPLIER for a site rather than only a
specific product or specific products commissioned by a SPONSOR.
SUPPORTING FWC LOGO (FWC Blue)
3.4. (ii) PRODUCT SPECIFIC & GENERIC
With the express written permission of the Fair Working Conditions organization companies
that have achieved full FWC approval may use this logo.
Where permission is granted, the logo may be used for a limited period of time in/on:
 Corporate Website
 Corporate Stationery (brochures, letterheads, etc)
 In-house Communications
 Trade Shows & Promotional Events
PRODUCT APPROVAL LOGO (FWC Green)
3.4.(iii): PRODUCT SPECIFIC
FWC audits conducted at the request of a SPONSOR are often product-specific whereby
Employment and Health & Safety practices pertaining to production of said product(s) are
audited. Where a collaborating company (supplier) is engaged in multiple product supply to
multiple clients, only those products specifically requested for audit by the SPONSOR may
carry the FWC Green logo. In the case where a SUPPLIER produces goods exclusively for the
SPONSOR, the audit obviously covers all production and therefore the SUPPLIER as an entity
and therefore all products originating from the audited site.
The approved use of the FWC Green logo must without exception be accompanied by a unique
reference code provided by FWC to the participating company. These will be used by FWC and
other interested parties such as consumers to track individual company/product approval,
validity and renewals of same where applicable. The unique reference code should always be
printed directly below the FWC Green logo. Users of FWC logos will be registered in a central
online
database
maintained
and
updated
by
the
FWC
organization.
www.fairworkingconditions.ie/database
3.4.(iv): GENERIC
Collaborating companies may wish to promote their compliance with Fair Working Conditions
to clients other than the SPONSOR. In such cases, the Supplier should negotiate independently
and directly with its relevant receiving clients regarding packaging modifications.
A request for use of the Product Approval Logo by a SUPPLIER for its site rather than only a
specific product or specific products commissioned by a SPONSOR is legitimate subject to all of
the following 3 conditions:
 The discretion of, and written approval from, FWC
 Verification of site of origin
 Royalty payment to FWC
Where permission is granted to a SUPPLIER to use the Product Approval Logo on its complete
line of products irrespective of receiving client, each individual site will be assigned a unique
reference code and will be subjected to periodic controls including spot checks on site at the
discretion of the Fair Working Conditions organization.
3.4.(v): SITE OF ORIGIN
Prior to giving permission for the Generic use of the FWC Green logo, the Supplier will be
required to provide substantial evidence that each product originates from the actual audited
site and not another location. Independently verifiable supporting documentation and
materials will need to be provided by the factory to confirm to a reasonable level of certainty
that the listed product originates from the factory. The definition of The Factory of Origin
follows the criteria used by The World Trade Organization in defining country of origin; the
factory where the product’s last substantial transformation took place.
Validation requirements for GENERIC FWC Approval are stringent and infringement of FWC
norms render the SUPPLIER liable to sanctions established under international Trademark
laws.
4: ROYALTY PAYMENT
Royalty Payments are applicable only in cases where collaborating companies (suppliers) wish
to avail of FWC Approval Logo use in a Generic manner - approval for a SUPPLIER site rather
than only a specific product or specific products commissioned by a SPONSOR.
Where permission is granted for the Generic use of the FWC Product Approval Logo (see
conditions in Clause 3.4.(v)) the SUPPLIER will be required to make a Royalty Payment to FWC.
