A horizontal cribriform plate
a perpendicular plate
Two lateral labyrinths
The cribriform plate connects the two labyrinths to the
perpendicular plate
The cribriform plate formed:
the middle part of the floor of the anterior cranial fossa
the roof of the nasal cavity
The cribriform plate articulates:
round its margins with the frontal bone,
posteriorly articulates with the sphenoid bone.
The crista galli
a sharp upward projection upwards from the font of the
cribriform plate for the anterior attachment of the falx cerebri
the foramen cecum
Between the crista galli and the crest of the frontal bone
for the transmission of a small vein from the nasal mucosa
to the superior sagittal sinus
Alongside the crista galli is a narrow slit in the cribriform
plate for the passage of the anterior ethmoidal nerve
into the nasal cavity.
The upper surface of the cribriform plate supports the
olfactory bulbs
The small perforations in the cribriform plate for the
olfactory nerves.
The body (ethmoidal labyrinth)
the orbital plate
nasal plate
The ethmoidal sinuses are divided into three groups
(anterior, middle, and posterior).
The orbital plate
separates the orbital cavity from the ethmoid sinuses
The medial wall of the orbital cavity
posterior to the lacrimal bone
anterior to the body of sphenoid bone
The anterior and posterior ethmoid foramina
The nasal plate
The lateral wall of the nasal cavity
There are two scroll-like projections from the ethmoidal
bone called superior and middle nasal conchae.
The uncinate process
the anterior part of the medial aspect
projects downwards and backwards
articulates with the lacrimal bone and the inferior conchae
Anteriorly, the labyrinth articulates with the lacrimal
bone and the nasal surface of the maxilla.
Posteriorly articulates with the anterior part of the
body of the sphenoid bone and the perpendicular plate
of the palatine bone.
Inferiorly with articulate with the orbital plate of the
palatine bone and maxilla.
The spheno-ethmoidal recess
sphenoidal air sinuses
the superior meatus
the posterior ethmoidal sinus
The middle meatus
wall a round prominence, the bulla ethmoidalis
wall a round prominence, the bulla ethmoidalis
The frontal, maxillary, and anterior ethmoidal air sinus
The perpendicular (vertical) plate
the upper part of the medial wall of the nasal cavity
It articulates:
posterosuperiorly with the crest of the sphenoid bone
posteroinferiorly with the vomer
In front with the septal cartilage of the nose
