UNIT 7: The Skeletal and Muscular Systems
Study Guide Due Day of the Test
Vocabulary (Use your Station Rotation, Notes, and Journals to write all you’ve
learned about each term in your own words. Don’t use the book – don’t use a dictionary.
Draw pictures to show what it looks like or how it works.)
1. muscular system (give all the jobs)
2. skeletal system (give all 5 jobs)
3. cartilage
4. tendon
5. ligament
6. smooth muscle
7. cardiac muscle
8. skeletal muscle
9. osteoporosis
10. joints
11. levers
12. arthritis
13. flexor
14. extensor
Please answer the following questions in detail using COMPLETE SENTENCES. Use
drawings to help you explain. Don’t guess. Look through your notes, station
rotation packets, journals, and the book to find the answer.
15. Describe all of the cells, parts, and tissues in a large bone like the femur and explain
what they do. (PowerPoint Notes, Station Rotation Packet, and book pgs. 472 – 475)
16. What are the 4 main types of joints in the body and how do they work. (include
examples: type of joint, bone names, types of tissues involved and their jobs, type of
motion capable) (PowerPoint Notes, Station Rotation Packet, and book pgs. 472 – 475)
17. What are the jobs of the muscular system? (hint: not just moving the skeleton
around) Be sure to include the 3 types of muscle tissue. (Notes, Journals, Station
Rotation Packet)
18. You pull your leg back and then whip it forward, kicking a soccer ball. Describe IN
DETAIL what is happening in your body. (Start with the signal being sent from your
brain to the hamstring muscle to contract and bend the leg. End with the ball flying off of
your foot. Include Drawings) Include: names of bones and muscles, tissues
involved, names and types of joints, lever type, muscle type (extensor or flexor),
nerves, muscle cells, etc. (Notes, Station Rotation Packet, and Journal) WORTH THE
MOST POINTS
20. Label the bones of this skeleton and be able to label it from memory. (Station
Rotation Packet)
21. Label the muscles
you’ve learned and be
able to label them from
memory. (Station
Rotation Packet)
