Specialist Managers NEC Description: This occupation group covers specialist managers not elsewhere classified. Occupations in this group include: airport manager, ambassador, archbishop, bishop and harbour master. Work Tasks (may include any combination of the following): Plans, organises, directs, controls and co-ordinates the development and implementation of an agencies activities; supervises and reviews operations; reports on progress to superiors; considers strategic issues and makes plans accordingly; sets policy for subordinate staff; organises meetings and prepares agendas; minute-taking and correspondence duties; disseminates policy statements and other literature; prepares submissions or represents the organisation’s interests; drafts news releases and deals with the media; liaises with government and other organisations; controls the organisations finances and may manage reporting staff. Work Environment: Constantly works indoors in offices and meeting rooms or indoors in other organisations or venues (e.g. churches for archbishops and bishops). Occasionally works outdoors when travelling to consult staff, officials or at official engagements and functions. Harbour Masters are likely to work outdoors and on vessels at sea. Employees constantly work in adequately heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained workspaces. 1 Work Function/Activity : Typically sedentary work constantly sitting in offices or in meetings or at official functions Stands and walks occasionally from office to office or building to building. Stands occasionally for brief periods of time when speaking in public or attending official functions. Lifting, carrying, pulling, bending, squatting or crouching is not a significant component of the job. Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand-held objects/equipment including pens, telephones and calculators and using a keyboard and mouse. Occasional travel by car and air is necessary. Driving of cars is occasionally required. Mental activities necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with communication, administration, public speaking, cross-cultural, communication, and organisational, planning and decision-making capabilities. Further Comments: There are opportunities for flexibility of movement. Entry Requirements: A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience.
