Boys and Men in Sparta Daily life was dominated by the army Boys were trained at a young age to run, jump, swim, throw javelins Self-discipline and obedience were the most important Girls and Women in Sparta had more rights than other Greek women received physical training tended to the family and land since husbands were away at the army Government ruled by two kings elected officials actually had the power controlled the slaves (which accounted for over 50% of the people) Boys and Men in Athens worked to improve both their mind and bodies learned to run, jump, and fight Learned to read, write, and speak Girls and Women in Athens no education no rights had to weave and sew Athenian Power after the Persian war many city-states formed alliances Delian League formed Athenians over used their power and were resented The Peloponnesian War Peloponnesian League (Sparta) Declared war on the Athenians No one gained power after 10 years of fighting so they called a truce Athens then tried again to expand its empire years later Sparta gained control and won Fighting Among the City-States Sparta became the most powerful city-state Other city-states started to resent them and this led to a period of war Fighting went on for many years and left Greece weak and open to attack by foreign powers.
