Holly Hall Academy – Curriculum Document, September 2016 – 2017 In year 9 students will have their work regularly assessed and be given feedback through their learning logs on how to improve each project they have been working on. They will use this to then improve their work further as of their lesson time. Unit 1 (Introduction to Python) Year 9 Unit 2 (Car Boot Sale) Unit Question: How can I can I create an interactive scripting language, using English key words? Unit Question: To understand how to undertake and organise a large project Key Unit Focuses: a) Students are introduced to the Python Shell which allows them to directly write and execute single lines of code. They are then introduced to the “Edit Window” was allows them to enter several lines of code. Key Unit Focuses: a) Consider the suitability of the programmes for use with the project b) Understand what is required to produce an effective logo c) Design and develop a database to keep a record of the sellers that use the car boot sale d) Design and develop an effective Radio Advert to advertise the car boot sale e) Create an Event Model to model costs f) Use the Step by step guides to work out the Revenue; Income; Profit; set up Validation; Set up Conditional Formatting; Create pie charts and add Validation g) Create a suitable Digital Advert h) Produce a suitable Animated Banner b) Students use Python to learn more about INPUTS & Variables. They learn about how If and Else features can be used to create different outcomes IF certain criteria are met. c) They also learn about Strings and Loops which are used when you want something to keep happening. Students also learn about the different types of loops i.e. the For and While loop. d) Throughout the unit students are encourage to undertake different levels of challenges and complete a end of unit assignment in which they create a Guessing Game. Unit 3 BCS E-safety Unit Question: What are the potential risks associated with being online? How can you protect yourself and your personal information online?
