Setting up the ASIO Driver in Cakewalk Music Creator 4
(A more detailed account for those who are using the Vista operating system)
The first time you use Music Creator under your own account, you’ll need to set it up to
use the ASIO driver. This driver works better in that it lessens the amount of latency you
hear when you play the MIDI keyboard.
Here’s how to do it.
When you open Music Creator, you’ll get a window like this. Just click OK.
It will take a minute for all the necessary files to be copied over.
Then you’ll get this window. You can cancel this one.
Then you’ll get this window. You can cancel this one, too. You’re not going to use the
WDM driver, so there’s no need to profile it.
Then you’ll get this window. You can choose your MIDI inputs now or wait until later.
If you choose them now, what you see as options depends on which computer you’re on.
I’m on CS23-2 for this demo, and this is what I see.
I’ve checked the boxes related to the MIDI inputs and outputs that I want to make
available. I didn’t make the USB Keystation available as a MIDI output because it has
no speakers.
Then you’re asked if you want to start a new project. You can start a new project,
selecting for its location the external drive and the folder that you made under the
CSC391/691 folder. Be sure to save the project once you enter Music Creator. If you
don’t, you’ll have to create it again the next time you start Music Creator.
Now let’s set up the ASIO driver. Go to Options/Audio.
Choose the Fast Track device for the Playback and Recording Timing Master.
On the Drivers tab, deselect anything other than Fast Track and then select Fast Track for
both input and output.
On the Advanced tab select ASIO.
You’ll be told that you have to shut down and restart Music Creator. (You don’t have to
reboot.) Save your project and restart Music Creator.
Go to Options/Audio and look at the Drivers tab. Deselect anything that isn’t Fast Track
for input and output and select Fast Track. Click OK. Again you’ll have to shut down
and restart.
Check the Options/Audio tab again. This time, everything should be alright.
