Find the chapter in the textbook provided: “Structure & Function of the Cell” and answer the following

2. Describe the difference between a unicellular organism and a multi-cellular organism?
3. What were the cellular contributions of Robert Hooke, Anton van Leeuwenhoek, and
Rudolph Virchow?
4. What are the three parts of the cell theory?
5. Define nucleus, and describe the structure and function of the cell nucleus.
6. What is an organelle?
7. What is the difference between a eukaryote and a prokaryote? Give examples of each.
8. What are the four tasks of living cells?
9. Describe the three main components of a typical eukaryotic cell?
10. Describe the cell membrane and its function.
11. What does the term “selectively permeable” mean?
12. Describe the two layers of molecules that compose the cell membrane.

Extreme Cell Project Activity!!!
Select only one of the project options listed below:

Project Purpose: To actively engage students with the intricate dynamics and complexities associated with
cells and the organelles that perform specific functions within living systems.
OPTIONS All five options require the same amount of work and effort, and all five options require the same
information about the organelles listed below. Options 1 – 4 are not group projects!
Option #1
Travel Brochure
Produce a travel brochure that describes both a plant and animal cells as if they each were a
tourist destination (ex. think of it as a giant amusement park). You must accurately
describe/draw/explain the structure and function of the organelles/ cell parts as if they are
the attractions of your tourist destination (8 for animal and 10 for plant). Humor and
creativity are strongly encouraged. Be sure to include a map/key with pictures of the
various attractions.
Option #2
Children’s Book or Comic Book
Design and produce an educational, interactive children’s book that teaches the
organelles/cell parts of both plant and animal cells. Be sure to include written descriptions
about the function and structure of each organelle/cell parts (8 for animal and 10 for plant).
You can include all info into one book, or make two separate books – one for animal cells
and one for plant cells.
Option #3
Model or Mobile (To hang from the ceiling) No Jello Products!!
Make 3-D models of an animal cell and a plant cell. Your model must include the 8 animal
organelles/cell parts and 10 plant organelles/cell parts with clear labels and a written
paragraph about the function and structure of each organelle/ cell parts.
Option #4
Cell Analogy
You will create a plant cell analogy using a TV show, movie, music band, or superstar
creation on a poster board. The pictures should be hand drawn or printed in color;
otherwise you can cut them out of magazines (NEATLY). The characters should be the
various organelles/ cell parts. In your analogy, you connect the characters to the structure
and function of the cell. The descriptions should be typed.
Option #5
Cell Movie (can be done in groups of four or less with students from other classes)
Create a movie (ex. using i-movie) about plant and animal cells. Be sure to include a
description of the cell organelles/cell parts structure and function (8 for animal and 10 for
plant). Humor and creativity are strongly encouraged. This movie can be interpretive
dance, musical, story, or theatrical representation (journey through a cell or reality show
about cells). You must include a typed script for your movie. Make it comedic!!
