 The hear acting as a double pump: notes on the pulmonary and
systemic circuits. P. 81
Lesson 2
 Discuss on how the heart beats and how it is measured through heart
rate. Note what a resting heart rate is and why this increases through
exercise.
 4 areas where a pulse can be taken
 Heart rate experiment.
 EXT: also discuss and note values for cardiac output and stroke
volume, extention worksheet ‘circulation and exercise.’
Homework
Take your heart rate before exercise, during exercise and at 1 minute
inervals until it gets back to resting levels, draw a graph to plot the
results.
Lesson 3.
 Blood vessels, copy and fill in the following table using P. 80

HOW DOES
BLOOD GET
THROUGH?
 Blood:
 There are 4 main functions of blood, these are: transport of
oxygen, glucose and waste products, body temperature control and
protection.
1. Blood is made up of 3 types of cell, name them.
2. What makes up the remaining 55% of blood?
3. Where are red blood cells produced?
4. What is the function of haemoglobin?
5. What is the main function of white blood cells
6. Why are platelets important in our blood?
EXT:
1. What is meant by anaemia?
2. What is a person called if they do not have many platelets in their
blood?

 Pumping Life: The heart and circulatory system – video and
photocopy sheet.
 The benefits of training on the circulatory system
