Geometry--Quarter 1
Rotation 1 (11 - 20 Aug)
Class 0 (30 Min Classes): Introductions. Fill out questionnaire. Student introductions. Show of hands for various things--first
year at KIS, travel out of country during summer, tutored during the summer, sports, music, siblings at KIS, etc. Introduce
teacher. No homework.
Class 1: Textbook checkout. Discuss how we conduct class--walk through syllabus. Bridge to brain based learning. Discuss
Euclid and “The Elements”. Pose Geometry essential question—why do we study geometry? Intro sec 1-2 Basic Definitions:
point, line, plane, segment, ray, distance, collinear, coplanar, intersect, and congruent. How to draw and label including vertical
planes, cubes, etc. (practice with white boards).
Class 2: Quick review of the concepts from the previous class--syllabus, brain based learning. Intro Geometry—visualization
and abstract thinking. Review basic definitions, drawing and labeling practice with pg16/28 - 55. Intro sec 1-5 Midpoints and
Segment Congruence. Review midpoint formula, skip proofs. Demonstrate formulating equations and solving. Assignment:
pg41/20-23,26,27,31-38,41,47.
Class 3: Grade pg 41. Intro angles. Define: opposite rays, intersection, contains, equidistant, congruent, bisector, angle, vertex,
adjacent. Learn to name angles. Review how read protractor (overhead). Draw different angles. Review pictures and notation
on pgs 44-48. Intro tick marks, and what you can and cannot assume in pictures. As a class answer pg 50/17-28. Assignment:
Wworksheet “Missing Concepts”.
Class 4: Grade “Missing Concepts”. Magic Eye activity--relate to Geometry. Intro sec 1-7 Angle Relationships. Define
perpendicular lines, adjacent angles, vertical angles, linear pair, complementary and supplementary angles. Work through 1-6
Practice 8-12 and the check for understanding and study guide for 1-7. Assignment: Worksheet “Angle Problems 1 and 2”.
Rotation 2 (21 - 31 Aug)
Class 1: Quiz--definitions, drawing and labeling figures. Grade Angle Problems 1 and 2. Practice 1 and 2 point perspective
drawings. Introduce perspective drawing project (30 pt quiz grade).
Class 2: Quiz pg 41. Work on perspective drawing project.
Class 3: Quiz “Missing Concepts”. Intro Chapter 2 Reasoning and Proof. Define inductive, deductive and lateral reasoning.
Define abstract and concrete thinking. Define If-then statements, conditional statements, hypothesis, conclusion, conjecture,
counterexample, converse, negation, inverse, contrapositive, theorem, postulate, and Venn Diagram. Assignment: pg 81/
