SCOPE AND SEQUENCE
Course:
9th Grade Geography
Length:
1 Semester
INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS/INTEGRATION PHILOSOPHY:
Psalm 24:1 – “The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.”
The study of geography helps us to better appreciate the splendor of God’s works, and also prepared us
to work in this world for Him and to serve others better.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A basic overview and introduction to the study of geography, both physical and human. After a brief
introduction to the field of geography and the five themes of geography, students will learn about the
geography of the U.S. and all other regions in the world. They will have map tests on each of the
regions and will have the chapter readings plus projects and papers in order to familiarize the students
with other parts of the world. The primary motivation for learning about the world and the people God
has placed in it is to see how God’s glory, majesty and grace are revealed in His creation.
The culmination of the semester will result in a student-led cultural fair for the lower elementary
students. Students will be assessed on their knowledge of the country and ability to utilize concepts and
ideas from the semester.
