Job Summary
As part of its strategy, Marie Curie Cancer Care has made a firm commitment to
developing its services to carers - relatives, friends, neighbours - looking after the patient
at the end of life and implementing a robust user/carer engagement strategy across the
charity.
The role of the project manager (diversity) is to manage a key part of the patient and
carer engagement strategy, namely a diversity and exclusion programme which has been
agreed by the Executive Board and Council. The post holder will manage the multiple
strands of the project which includes: mapping and scoping the needs of the Black Asian
Minority Ethnic (BAME) and excluded communities, establishing priorities, building up key
external partnerships and designing and developing pragmatic support services which will
address their present needs, whilst also taking in to account demographic trends for the
future. The work will include: project initiation, service re-design, and stakeholder
engagement, budget development, managing project documentation, reporting and
evaluation.
Main Duties
1. Project Management
1.1 The Project Manager will be responsible for managing the resources and activities
required to set up the and run the project as follows:

To develop project outlines and project initiation documents in collaboration
with key stakeholders

To develop and maintain a detailed project plan including setting key
milestones and outcome criteria

To identify, manage and mitigate project risks and issues highlighting actions in
the project plan, escalating as necessary

Identify and prioritise areas of need, with reference to such tools as the map of
need

To produce and maintain stakeholders analysis

To agree and establish project governance arrangements

To facilitate and manage project group meetings, including circulation of
project minutes and papers

To share lessons learnt from the multiple strands of the project
1.2 Where required, to use appropriate methodologies to undertake analysis of current
services or stakeholder perspectives, such as:
– Interviews
– Focus groups
– Surveys and questionnaires
– Audits
– Shadowing
– Data analysis

in collaboration with key stakeholders to build and support a UK wide network
of BAME and Exclusion partners

To work with MCNS and the Hospices to improve the recording of demographic
data and undertake basic data analysis

To produce and present findings in a comprehensive report for approval
1.3 Where required, to undertake service redesign to address identified gaps and
barriers in providing inclusive services. The resulting service models must be
integrated with local service provision.

To develop and cost alternative service models

To identify and establish best practice in engaging excluded groups

To work collaboratively to ensure value for money

To manage proactively the change process during implementation

To monitor continuously and report against agreed outcomes, identifying
improvement measures as and when required

To participate in formal evaluation of the project

To summarise the results of any internal, external and patient/carer
consultation and identify key outcomes/conclusions

2. Communication
 To develop a diversity communication strategy including identification of key
stakeholders and partners both to raise awareness across the geographical
area, and to ensure effective internal, stakeholder and external project
communication

To provide regular updates of news and activities regarding the project

To communicate and provide relevant project documents to MCCC Fundraising
and PR departments

To establish and maintain effective networks with professional colleagues
ensuring that the profile of the project is appropriately represented

To keep abreast of current issues in relation to Palliative Care and diversity ,
with particular regard to NHS policies and local initiatives and the Equal
Opportunity Act 2010

To work collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure ongoing commitment
and involvement in the project, proactively managing risks and issues to
deliver agreed outcome

To plan and give presentations as and when required across all stakeholders,
including the executive board and national events

To support the development of a good practice guide and a user handbook,
with clear guidelines for staff as to why, how, what methods to use to engage
with users and carers from excluded communities. Help organise events,
workshops, and seminars in localities, regions and nations across the UK.

Support the recruitment of patients and carers from excluded communities for
the various internal and external reference groups.
3. Resources & budget

To develop project budgets

To compile and present budget updates to Finance and Project Board

To work with fundraising teams to identify and apply for resources available for
the development of services to patients and carers from excluded groups
.
4. Project Evaluation

To ensure that project evaluation requirements are identified at project launch

To work collaboratively with the project evaluation team to enable development
of the evaluation plan and identification of data requirements.

To incorporate project evaluation into the project plan and ensure its delivery
within the agreed timeline

5. Reporting

To prepare project reports and presentations for the Project Board

To provide project updates, at agreed intervals, to the Assistant Director of
Research and Innovation

To prepare project reports and presentations for the Marie Curie Executive
Board or Board of Trustees, as required
6. People Management

To provide line management for junior project staff
General
