How to Find Your Revolutionary War Patriot Ancestor Free on the Internet By Mary Sullens McEwan Here are few free sources plus additional information that will be discussed in class: HeritageQuest Online- Available from your public library or home computer by using your library card. From your library site select Internet Resources; then Genealogy; then HeritageQuest Online. Enter your library card number and the last 4 digits of your phone number. Press login. Select Search Revolutionary War. This will give you selected records from the Revolutionary War Era Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application Files. Fill in the surname and first name if known. To select all persons of that surname in a certain area only fill in the surname. Next fill in state and service if known. These service files may be downloaded and printed. They contain in general, dates and places, and types of service, mustering in and out records, wife or widow and children’s names, and death of or date of disability of serviceman. Not all that served are covered in these records but they are a valuable source for those that are. Fill in form. The type of information given: dates and places of birth and death, name of wife or husband, rank, type of service and the state where the patriot lived or served.
