Week 13
Read, Cover, Recite, Check
A. RCRC
When you need to memorize something or study something carefully, use RCRC.
R=READ Read a little bit of material, read it more than once.
C=COVER Cover the material with your hands.
R=RECITE/WRITE Tell yourself what you read.
C=CHECK Lift your hand and check.
If you forget something important, begin again.
B. CHAPTER SUMMARY
1. The atmosphere has five regions-troposphere, the stratosphere, the mesosphere, the
ionosphere, and exosphere.
2. The atmosphere is held around the earth by gravity.
3. The troposphere is the region of air closest to the earth. Air movements in the troposphere
cause almost all weather changes.
4. The stratosphere is the layer of air above the troposphere. The ozone layer is the warm
layer in the upper part of the stratosphere. Most of the suns ultraviolet radiation is
absorbed in the ozone layer.
5. The mesosphere is the layer above the stratosphere. Most meteors burn up in the thin air
of the mesosphere.
6. The ionosphere is the layer between the mesosphere and the exosphere. The charged
particles, or ions, in this region reflect radio waves back to the earth.
7. The exosphere, the outer layer of the atmosphere, is almost empty space.

_____ The atmosphere has five regions.
_____ The atmosphere is held around the earth by gravity.
_____ The mesosphere is the region closest to the earth.
_____ Most weather changes occur because of movement in the troposphere.
_____ The ozone layer is the warm layer in the upper part of the stratosphere.
_____ Most of the suns ultraviolet radiation gets to the earth.
_____ Most meteors reach the earth and then burn up.
_____ The charged particles in the ionosphere reflect radio waves back to the earth.
_____ The exosphere is a very dense region with a lot of gases.
