11. The following sentences describe the path of blood through the circulatory
system. In the space provided, write a 1 next to the sentence that describes what
happens first. Continue until all sentences are numbered. The cycle begins with
the blood flowing from the lungs to the heart.
_____ Blood is pumped from the right atrium to the right ventricle.
_____ Blood is pumped from the body to the right atrium.
_____ Blood is pumped from the left ventricle to the rest of the body.
_____ Blood is pumped from the right ventricle to the lungs.
_____ Blood is pumped from the left atrium to the left ventricle.
_____ Blood is pumped from the lungs back to the left atrium.

Lesson 7 - Nervous System Comprehension
Read the paragraphs. Then answer the questions.
Melanie’s class was studying the nervous system. They read that the
cerebrum is the part of the brain that solves problems and makes decisions. It
receives and answers messages from the senses. They also read that the
cerebellum helps people move and keep their balance. The cerebellum directs
movements so well that people usually do not have to think about moving at all. In
addition, they read that the brain stem takes care of breathing, heartbeat, and
swallowing. People do not have to think about these functions either.
Later that day at home, Melanie saw a bright red strawberry on a white dish.
She put it in her mouth and bit into it. The strawberry’s juice ran onto her tongue
and down into her esophagus as she swallowed. Suddenly, Melanie ran to the sink
and spit out the piece of strawberry.
1. What part of Melanie’s brain told her the strawberry was red? ______________
2. What facts support your answer?
__________________________________________________________________
3. What part of Melanie’s brain directed the juice from the strawberry to go into
her esophagus?
__________________________________________________________________
4. What facts support your answer?
__________________________________________________________________
5. Why do you think Melanie spit out the strawberry?
__________________________________________________________________
6. What part of her brain told her that? __________________________________
7. What part of her brain controlled her as she ran to the sink? ________________
8. What facts support your answer?
