Course Description
This course provides practice essential to the midwifery care of normal and high-risk
postpartum women, newborns and their families.
Focus will also be on the development and the application of knowledge and skills necessary
for the midwife in the provision of health care to women during postnatal period, newborns and
their families. By utilizing the nursing process, current research findings and integrating the
principles of reproductive health and safe motherhood.

1. Demonstrate ability to apply the physiology underpinning holistic
midwifery care through verbalization.
2. Assess and manage a postpartum and newborn care provision from an
evidence-based perspective
3. Apply knowledge of postpartum assessment and diagnosis to
provide appropriate care
4. Demonstrate the ability to assess newborns and apply the holistic
midwifery care for them.
5. Analyze and utilize strategies to promote positive parenting
relationships

spiritual needs of the women during postpartum period as high-risk.

postpartum illness to provide appropriate care for high-risk women
14. Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of
the women and infants with birth trauma.

the critically ill women in the postpartum period.
