Unit Curriculum Map for: 4th Grade Science Cook County Schools Unit: Weather # of Days:30 Key Concept(s) Weather Water Cycle Meteorology Standards/Elements S4E3a,b,c,d S4E4a,b,c,d S4CS2a,b,c S4CS3a,b,c,d S4CS5b,c,d S4CS8a,b,c,d Unit Essential Questions Why do we study weather? How does the water cycle work? How do meteorologists use weather patterns to predict weather? What is the difference between weather and climate? What is the climate in Georgia like? S4CS4a,b,c Content Water can be a solid, a liquid, or a gas. The water cycle is continuous. Condensation forms clouds. Water freezes at 32° and boils at 212°. There are six types of precipitation. Weather maps provide data. Weather and climate are different. We use various instruments to gather data. Observations and data help us make predictions. Key Terms/Vocabulary – “Language of the Standard/Elements” solid, liquid, gas, meteorologist, condensation, evaporation, precipitation, cirrus, stratus, cumulus, cumulonimbus, humidity, front, air pressure, air mass, thermometer, rain gauge, barometer, wind vane, anemometer, weather, climate Skills Demonstrate how water changes from a solid to a liquid to a gas. Identify freezing and boiling points of water. Investigate how clouds form. Explain the water cycle. Investigate different forms of precipitation. Identify weather instruments and uses. Use a weather map to identify and interpret weather conditions. Use observations and records to predict weather. Explain the difference between weather and climate.
