By 195 BC I climbed the traditional ladder of magistrate (public/law) offices to the height by achieving the position as consul. In this position I won great victories in the wars in Spain. Then in 191 BC I have finally retired from the army and concentrated instead on participating in debates among my fellow senators. Patience is the greatest of all virtues. We cannot control the evil tongues of others; but a good life enables us to disregard them. Wise men profit more from fools than fools from wise men; for the wise men shun the mistakes of fools, but fools do not imitate the successes of the wise. Even though work stops, expenses run on. Tis sometimes the height of wisdom to feign stupidity. ACTIVITIES AND INTERESTS Activities: Politician, Miliary Interests:Politics Accomplishments: I fought in the Second Punic War and later served as quaestor (204), aedile (199), praetor (198), consul (195), and censor (184). Though even now that I have retired from politics I still will not rest. I am working on creatinh the first Roman encyclopedia, a work on medicine, a history of Rome, and also, because I grew up on a farm, I wrote a text on farming (the oldest complete Latin prose work).
