Geometry Chapter 1: Essentials of Geometry Section 1.5 – Describe Angle Pair Relationships SWBAT: use special angle relationships to find angle measures. Common Core: G.CO.1. Know precise definitions of angle, circle, perpendicular line, parallel line, and line segment, based on the undefined notions of point, line, distance along a line, and distance around a circular arc. Vocabulary: complementary angles, supplementary angles, adjacent angles, linear pair, and vertical angles Complimentary Angles-‐ sum of the angles is _________________________ Supplementary Angles-‐ sum of the angles is _________________________ Adjacent Angles-‐ two angles that share a common vertex and side, but have no common interior points. Example 1: Identify complements and supplements a. In the figure name a pair of complementary angles, a pair of supplementary angles, and a pair of adjacent angles. Geometry Chapter 1: Essentials of Geometry Example 2: Find measures of a compliment and a supplement a. Given the ∠1 is a compliment of ∠2 and 𝑚∠1 = 17°, find the 𝑚∠2. b. Given that ∠3 is a supplement of ∠4 and 𝑚∠3 = 119°, find the 𝑚∠4. Example 3: Find angle measures a. Two roads intersect to form supplementary angles, ∠𝑋𝑌𝑊 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∠𝑊𝑌𝑍. Find 𝑚∠𝑋𝑌𝑊 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑚∠𝑊𝑌𝑍. Geometry Chapter 1: Essentials of Geometry Example 4: Identify angle pairs a. Identify all of the linear pairs of angles and all of the vertical angles in the figure. Example 5: Find angle measure in a linear pair a. Two angles form a linear pair. The measure of one angle is 3 times the measure of the other angle. Find the measure of each angle.
