Information about Summer Schools for students from the School of Engineering and Computing Some students at UWS wish to have an "International Experience" while they are students. International experience is something that helps you grow as a person by providing you with an opportunity to experience a new culture, widen your circle of friends and acquaintances, and challenging you to undertake independent travel and living. One way to get International Experience is to go to a "Summer School". Summer Schools are run by many Universities throughout the world. Universities run these courses for a number of reasons. Some of these are to give their own home students an opportunity to meet students from overseas, to use resources like Halls of accommodation and lecturers that would otherwise be under employed in the summer, to provide advertisement for their programmes of study in a hands-on sort of way with a view of attracting students. Students from UWS have participated in Summer Schools in the past and for the most part they have found them very valuable and enjoyable. My name is Joe Heffernan and I have the role as International Coordinator (Europe and Erasmus) in the School of Engineering and Computing. One of my duties in this role is to encourage students to gain International Experience. Therefore, I would encourage you to consider going to a summer school at some point in your academic career. To facilitate this I have assembled a list of summer schools over a number of years. Below is a listing of Summer Course at European Universities that I am aware of. Certain courses shown may not be running during the summer of 2017. We are keen to know if any UWS student participates in a summer school. In addition, particiaption in an International Summer School can be added to your Higher Education Achievement record. For some of the summer schools shown below the closing date for applications is 1 March so if you do have an interest you will need to start your application soon. Generally, for most of the programmes the application process is relatively simple and straight forward. A web site that acts as a clearing house for Summer Courses is http://www.summerschoolsineurope.eu/ You can search by subject, location, cost. etc.... If none of the summer schools shown below are of interest then try this website.
