Pre-activity
A doctor sees a patient who is complaining of shortness of breath. This
patient has trouble breathing after exercise and sometimes even after
climbing the stairs. At night this patient also is coughing and producing
mucous. The doctor diagnoses this patient as having Bronchitis, a
pulmonary disorder brought on by a virus or bacteria.
1) Define what a disease is and whether this patient has an infectious or non-infectious disease?
2) What is the difference between infectious and non infectious diseases?
Post-activity
You are a doctor and a patient comes in complaining of a sore throat and a
swollen neck. They feel sleepy all the time and have felt this way for about
a month. They also complain of stiffness especially in the legs. You
diagnose them with Mononucleosis, also known as the kissing disease since
it can be passed through saliva from one person to the next.
