Infectious Disease
Your primary care practitioner (PCP) can effectively diagnose and
treat most common infections. However, when an infection is difficult
to diagnose, is not responding to treatment, or when the infection is a
chronic disease that affects the patient’s overall care, specialized care
and consultation with a physician who specializes in infectious disease
may be necessary.
Consultations with our associated board-certified infectious disease
specialists from UMass Memorial Medical Center are available at Day
Kimball Hospital on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Outpatient
appointments require a referral from your primary care practitioner.
Consultations and specialized inpatient and outpatient care is available
to diagnose and treat a variety of diseases including
• pneumonia
• septicemia
• skin and wound infections
• lyme disease and other tic-borne diseases
• hepatitis
• HIV/AIDS
• and others
