SEX WITH STRANGERS @ Peacock
Wed 16 - Sat 19 Sep
Trapped in a rural writer's retreat by a snowstorm, serious writer turned professor, Olivia (Tottie Goldsmith) is
settling down to write her second novel, which she hopes will be more successful than her first. In from the snow
walks Ethan (Samuel Johnson), a brash, handsome, highly successful, Y-Generation blog writer with aspirations of
literary legitimacy. Olivia succumbs to his obvious charm and seemingly poetic soul. But can love really bloom
between an old-school book lover and a man whose publicity-generating exaggerated tell-all memoir "Sex with
Strangers" chronicles his rambunctious sex-ploits on an internet blog?
First staged by Chicago's Steppenwolf theatre in 2011, and more recently at the STC and off-Broadway (starring
Anna Gunn of Breaking Bad fame), this is story telling at its best. Dark, sexy and funny Sex with Strangers delves
into the lives of two people equally capable of ambition, kindness and cruelty. Sex with Strangers makes timely
and insightful observations about the foibles of first impressions and about love and relationships in the digital
age.
How far will Olivia and Ethan go to get what they want?
