Chapter 9 – Four G Flip Book
Comparing the Spanish Worldview with your worldview,
your assignment is to design a Flip-Book that explains and
illustrates each of the four factors (4 G’s – God, Gold, Glory
and Geography) that influenced Spain’s worldview at the
time of the conquistadors. It is important to include
information such as:
 Spain’s location and its relation to the Atlantic Ocean
 La geographia manda – what does it mean and it’s
relevance
 The influence of Africa and Europe on Spain, especially it religious history
 The Muslim influence
 The effects of the Reconquista which restored Christianity
 Ferdinand and Isabella’s influence as devout Catholics
 Spanish Inquisition-The expulsion of Jews and Muslims from Spain- loss of economic
growth
 Motivation of explorers for gold and silver
 Needed to pay for wars to keep invaders out
 Wanted expansionism- desire for conquest
 Wanted to restore Spanish glory
 Muslim influence on architecture
 People willing to take risks for glory
Once you have completed this, you will examine your worldview and compare (write and
illustrate) how your worldview is similar or different to that of the Spanish.
Use the paper provided in class to complete the assignment. The words God, Glory,
Geography and Gold should be emphasized on each of the flip pages. Create a graphic to
represent each of these topics. Under each topic you can explain any of your ideas more
clearly. This should be a combination of words/ pictures showing what the 4 G’s meant to
the Spanish worldview. Following that, write/illustrate your worldview comparison.
You will be marked using the following rubric.
