As a business owner I recognize, as our founders did, that all men are created equal, and
endowed with certain unalienable rights. Among those are life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness.
America was founded as a great and free country. Our Founding Fathers created a Constitution,
a Bill of Rights and a government that was both for and by the people. It is this very freedom
that has enabled America to become one of the most advanced, greatest nations on earth. Yet
today, those freedoms are under attack.
The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 (NDAA), particularly sections 1021
and 1022, are a direct attack on our sacred liberty and Bill of Rights. By allowing the President of
the United States to detain whomever he wishes, on mere “suspicion” of terrorism, Congress has
given the Executive Branch unprecedented authority to arrest our friends, families, and fellow
citizens.
This law is Unconstitutional, and removes our fundamental rights to be free from unlawful
search and seizure, cruel and unusual punishment, the right to a fair, speedy and public trial and
has, according to Federal Judge Katherine Forrest, a “chilling effect on First Amendment
rights.”

I am now calling upon the (name of city) City Council and (name of County) County
Commission to honor their Oath of office to Support, Protect and Defend the Constitution of the
United States from all enemies foreign and domestic. As the Federal Government has decided to
support Unconstitutional legislation, it is now time for Cities, Counties, and States to assert their
rights, protect their citizens, and nullify sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA.
I also call on the (name of County) Sheriff to uphold his status as the highest law
enforcement officer in this County, and uphold his Oath to Support, Protect and Defend the
Constitution of the United States. I call on our (name of Sheriff) to assert his Constitutional
authority and refuse to allow the U.S. Military to arrest a U.S. citizen in (name of County).
