The Moscow Ballet is bringing its critically acclaimed "Great Russian Nutcracker" to the Chumash Casino Resort's Samala Showroom for one performance at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. Tickets are $30, $40 and $50. "Thrilling, expansive and elegant," is how the New York Times describes the Moscow Ballet's production of the beloved Christmas story of the girl who falls in love with a Nutcracker Prince. Set to Pytor Tchaikovsky's famous score, principal dancers, Alexandra Elagina as Masha and Anatolie Ustimov as the Nutcracker Prince, and a corps of 30 dancers bring this classic story to life. Lavish costumes, larger-than-life Russian puppets and beautifully hand-painted backdrops make this spellbinding show a must see for everyone this holiday season. "Great Russian Nutcracker" debuted in 1993 and was directed and choreographed by soloist Stanislav Vlasov of the famous Bolshoi Theatre. In 2003, Anatoly Emelianov, winner of the Diagelev award, restaged the Great Russian Nutcracker to critical acclaim. Moscow Ballet productions continue to feature award-winning principals and top graduates of Perm, Vaganova, Moscow State Academic Choreographic and Kiev schools.
