The Excretory System Notes Excretory system : Collects wastes produced by the cells and removes them from the body. Examples of wastes: water, carbon dioxide, urine & perspiration (sweat). Urinary system: Eliminates many wastes as liquid urine. Kidneys: Major organs of the urinary system, removes excess water and other waste materials by filtering blood. Nephrons: Tiny structures in the kidneys that filter liquid waste from blood to form urine. Ureters: Tubes that carry wastes from the kidneys to the urinary bladder. Urinary bladder: Muscular organ that stores urine until it passes out of the body. Urethra: Tube that opens to release urine out of the body. Other excretory organs: Organ Function/ waste product Lungs Remove water vapor and carbon dioxide from the body each time you exhale. Skin Excretes water and salts when the body is overheated.
