In this unit you will be able to:
 Describe what Hindus believe about God.
 Explain whether Hindus believe in One God or many
 Evaluate whether the Hindu idea of God is a good one.
 Explain what happens during Hindu worship.
 Enquire into the question is there “One Life or Many?”
 Enquire into concepts of Samsara, Karma, Moksha, and Yoga.
 Explain what these mean for a Hindu
 Evaluate and justify whether you feel they provide an answer as to what happens in life or
death.
 Communicate and apply your own ideas to the concepts studied.
KEY WORDS FOR THIS UNIT
God – believed to be everywhere and in
everything.
The Hindu statues for God
Murti
The three main aspects of God – destroyer,
Trimurti
preserver, creator.
Monotheism The belief in one God.
Polytheism The belief in lots of Gods.
Worship at a Hindu shrine.
Puja
Literally means, “seeing”. This is a form of
Darshan
worship.
The Hindu place of worship
Mandir
Samsara
The cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth
(sometimes called re incarnation)
Moksha
The escape from samsara (rebirth). When the
soul becomes one with Brahman.
Atman
The Hindu term for what we know as the soul.
Hindu’s believe that it is the part of Brahman in all
of us.
Karma
The Hindu idea that all actions have
consequences. These actions determine what we
are reborn as.
Yoga
Literally means Path. To Hindu’s this means the
path to Moksha.
Dharma
The Hindu term for duty. You have to do your
duty to reach Moksha.
Brahman
Business and Enterprise
Citizenship
This unit links to business and
enterprise through the home
study task In this you will
create a travel guide to some
of India’s Holiest places for
Hindu’s.
This topic will need you to
research and show
understanding of a culture
other than your own.
You will also need to justify
and defend your personal
opinion on the issues discussed
too.

In this unit you will use a
range of ICT, including

aid learning and use the
computers for your home
study projects. Your home

Assessment
There is one main assessment half way through the unit. In this you will be
asked to explain and evaluate the Hindu concept of Brahman.
The mark scheme for the assessment can be found on the RE section of he
VLE.
