It's All Greek To Me!! Introduction: During this grading period we are learning about Ancient Greece, and Greek Mythology. This activity will allow you to explore these different topics at your own pace. The Tasks: There are 3 main projects you will need to complete by the end of this unit. 1. Research the list of gods and goddesses provided and give 3 qualities for each. 2. Create a family tree for Zeus. 3. Research one Greek god or goddess and prepare a formal presentation. Activity #1 (35 points) Use Greek Gods and Goddesses worksheet. Using different Resources, including at least one book, research each god and goddess. Minimum of five (5) resources. Print out a picture of one god and one goddess from the internet and attach it to the end of your worksheet. Label them. Annotate. Pictures should be no larger than ½ a sheet each. Create a Site Source/Bibliography for your work. Minimum of 5 sources. Annotate. Use a proper header. Your final worksheet should be typed (12 font). The final packet should be in the following order: 1. Worksheet (annotated); 2. Pictures (annotated); 3. Site Source/Bibliography. Staple your packet. Activity #2 (45 points) Create Zeus's family tree. (Minimum of 12 family members other than Zeus) Use resources to find pictures of each Greek god and goddess related to Zeus. Print out a picture of each Greek god and goddess in the family tree. (Label each picture.) Annotate. Beneath each picture, write a brief description of the god or goddess and how he/she is related to Zeus. (3-5 sentences, use large font for poster) Annotate. Put project on poster board to present to the class. Use a heading (title). (name on front right bottom) Annotate. Create a typed (12 font) Site Source/Bibliography for your work. Paper clip to your poster. Use a header for the Site Source/Bibliography. Present your poster to class, naming 3 things you learned. 1-2 minutes Activity will be graded on: accuracy of information, directions followed, use of poster space, pictures, presentation, and site source/bibliography. Final Project: (80 points) You are required to research one Greek god or goddess thoroughly. After researching this god or goddess you are required to prepare a presentation. See Research Information. See Rubric for Greek God and Goddess Presentation for specific details. You will need to identify your god or goddess to your teacher and it must be approved. Have several (5) options in mind. You will be required to submit your poem in writing as well as any resource information used, in other words, a Site Source/Bibliography page. No two students will have the same god or goddess. Each student will pick their god or goddess. Selection order will be random. Demi-gods, Heroes, Creatures or Titans may be used, but you must explain their distinction to the class in your presentation. The following information is to help guide you through this project: 1) Name of god or goddess 2) Thorough background information about the god or goddess. (parents? siblings? married? Where is he/she from? Where does he/she live?) 3) Special talents, skills, or traits (god of moon, strong, beautiful, ...) 4) Weaknesses or areas that cause trouble for the god or goddess (love weakness, liar, ..) 5) Are they represented in the night sky? How or Why? 6) Create a poem or song about your Greek god or goddess. 4 stanzas minimum 7) In your own words, retell a myth about your god or goddess. 8) Dress up as your god or goddess on your day to present. 9) Prepare to answer a few questions about your god or goddess. Presentation Oral presentation: Prepare material on index cards and present information orally to class in costume. Annotate. You will be given approximately 5-7 minutes to speak about your god or goddess. Tell your myth, and recite your poem.
