Increased alveolar/capillary membrane resistance

A reduction in lung volumes is well documented in patients with heart failure.23 If this were to be the main mechanism responsible for the increase in alveolar/capillary membrane diffusive resistance, then a significant correlation between vital capacity and TLcO/DM would be expected. Moreover, a de ...

Cardiac surgery

Cardiovascular (heart) surgery is surgery on the heart or great vessels performed by cardiac surgeons. Frequently, it is done to treat complications of ischemic heart disease (for example, coronary artery bypass grafting), correct congenital heart disease, or treat valvular heart disease from various causes including endocarditis, rheumatic heart disease and atherosclerosis. It also includes heart transplantation.
