Nerve activates contraction
Nerve activates contraction

...  Amount of blood in the heart determines how stretched the fibers are  The more blood returned to the heart per minute, the more stretched the fibers are and the stronger the contraction is.  Startling’s Law ensures that increase amounts of blood returned to the heart are pumped out of it ...

Outcomes of Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve

... Presently, the most common type of surgery performed for functional mitral regurgitation is an undersized mitral annuloplasty, which was popularized by Bolling and colleagues.23 In this technique, a small (size, 24Y26 mm) mitral annuloplasty ring is used, which causes a reduction in the anteroposter ...

Artifacts and Pitfalls in Myocardial Perfusion Imaging

... Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is an important imaging modality in the management of patients with cardiovascular disease. MPI plays a key role in diagnosing cardiovascular disease, establishing prognosis, assessing the effectiveness of therapy, and evaluating viability. However, MPI is a comple ...

Jatene procedure

The Jatene procedure, or arterial switch, is an open heart surgical procedure used to correct dextro-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA); its development was pioneered by Canadian cardiac surgeon William Mustard and it was named for Brazilian cardiac surgeon Adib Jatene, who was the first to use it successfully. It was the first method of d-TGA repair to be attempted, but the last to be put into regular use because of technological limitations at the time of its conception. Use of the arterial switch is historically preceded by two atrial switch methods: the Senning and Mustard procedures. This surgery may be used in combination with other procedures for treatment of certain cases of double outlet right ventricle (DORV) in which the great arteries are dextro-transposed.
