Essential role of conserved DUF177A protein in plastid 23S rRNA

... of proteins with a conserved domain of unknown function (DUF) is a major challenge in genome and molecular biology (Bateman et al., 2010; Mudgal et al., 2015). Although genes encoding DUF177 proteins are found in nearly all sequenced bacterial and land plant genomes (Goodacre and Gerloff, 2014), kno ...

Thus, the stabilization of the cleavage fragments generated by miR390 or 22 nt miRNA-containing RISCs is important for subsequent steps. The 5′ and 3′ miR173cleaved fragments accumula ...

Imprinted gene detection in Arabidopsis thaliana

... Abstract - We use the self-organizing map (SOM) to detect novel imprinted genes in A.thaliana from microarray gene expression measurements in several interploidy and mutant A.thaliana crosses. In sexually reproducing organisms, the transcription of the maternally as well as the paternally inherited ...

Chapter 1: Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC)

... Recently, a gene called hEXO1, encoding an exonuclease required for mismatch repair (Tishkoff et al., 1998), and a new MutS homologue gene, hMSH5 (Her & Doggett, 1998) have been identified. They are located on chromosomes 1q, and 6p, respectively. No germline mutations have yet been reported. ...

... The dnaB gene of E. coli encodes a helicase (DnaB) that unwinds DNA at the replication fork. Its properties have been studied using artificial substrates like those shown in Figure 1A. In such substrates, DnaB binds preferentially to the longest single-strand region (the largest target) available. Th ...

Databases of genetic information show that E. coli has operons more frequently than random if operons reduce noise for the type of interaction various gene pairs have, but not otherwise. Our study thus provides an example of how the architecture of post-translational netw ...

... Both variation and variability are of evolutionary advantage only if they have a genetic basis. Genetic variation in individuals (and therefore variability in a population) arises as a result of sexual reproduction. This involves gamete formation (by meiosis), followed by fertilisation (fusion of ma ...

NEDD9

Neural precursor cell expressed developmentally down-regulated protein 9 (NEDD-9) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NEDD9 gene. NEDD-9 is also known as enhancer of filamentation 1 (EF1), CRK-associated substrate-related protein (CAS-L), and Cas scaffolding protein family member 2 (CASS2). An important paralog of this gene is BCAR1.
