... first theoretical acknowledgment of antimatter came first in 1928 by Paul Dirac. He realized that his relativistic Schrödinger-equation allowed positively charged electrons, which are now called antielectrons or positrons. [1] These antielectrons were later discovered in cosmic rays by Carl D. Ander ...

These problems require students to construct the details of a problem, justify their starting assumptions, show specific steps in the problem’s solution, and finally discuss the meaning of the result. These types of problems relate well to both conceptual and analytical aspects of physics, emphasizi ...

... passed from one object to the other. When you let go of the packaged egg and it begins to fall, the downward momentum that gravity transfers into the egg begins to accumulate in the egg. Before you let go, your hand was removing the egg’s downward momentum as fast as gravity was adding it, but now t ...

Lorentz violation is realized as a coupling of particle fields and background fields, so the basic strategy to find Lorentz violation is: (1) choose the coordinate system (2) write down the Lagrangian, including Lorentz-violating terms under the formalism (3) write down the observables using this La ...

... After these general remarks, let me turn to the main focus of this thesis: the measurement problem and environment-induced decoherence. The measurement problem has been said to “dominate the philosophy of quantum mechanics” (Wallace, 2007), and as we will see in chapter 1 it does indeed touch upon a ...
The Second Law of Quantum Complexity
The Second Law of Quantum Complexity

... Complexity theory, particularly its quantum version, is a new and relatively unknown mathematical subject to most physicists1 . It’s a difficult subject with few quantitative results and, at least for the moment, no experimental guidance. Our original interest in complexity began with questions abou ...

Theoretical and experimental justification for the Schrödinger equation

The theoretical and experimental justification for the Schrödinger equation motivates the discovery of the Schrödinger equation, the equation that describes the dynamics of nonrelativistic particles. The motivation uses photons, which are relativistic particles with dynamics determined by Maxwell's equations, as an analogue for all types of particles. This article is at a postgraduate level. For a more general introduction to the topic see Introduction to quantum mechanics.
