Systemic lupus erythematosus and myasthenia gravis

... Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an auto immune disease with no predilection to involve specific organs, and is characterized by the pres ence of anti‑native DNA and anti‑SM antibodies, which may contribute to the occurrence of sus tained proinflammatory state in the body.1,2 Im mune disord ...

Does soluble CD26 predict outcome of acute hepatitis E

... Background: Even without treatment, most of acute hepatitis E virus (HEV) infected patients resolve HEV but sometimes the disease leads to acute liver failure, chronic infection, or extrahepatic symptoms. The mechanisms of HEV pathogenesis appear to be substantially immune mediated. However, the imm ...

... Although cytotoxic T cells are helpful in the immune system, they make the acceptance of organ transplants difficult. When an organ is transplanted from one person to another, the normal response of the recipient’s immune system would be to recognize it as nonself. T cells and proteins would damage ...

Psychoneuroimmunology

Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), also referred to as psychoendoneuroimmunology (PENI), is the study of the interaction between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems of the human body. PNI takes an interdisciplinary approach, incorporating psychology, neuroscience, immunology, physiology, genetics, pharmacology, molecular biology, psychiatry, behavioral medicine, infectious diseases, endocrinology, and rheumatology. The main interests of PNI are the interactions between the nervous and immune systems and the relationships between mental processes and health. PNI studies, among other things, the physiological functioning of the neuroimmune system in health and disease; disorders of the neuroimmune system (autoimmune diseases; hypersensitivities; immune deficiency); and the physical, chemical and physiological characteristics of the components of the neuroimmune system in vitro, in situ, and in vivo.
