... To turn off the current source, we make the current equal to 0. We need to make it an open circuit here so the current is 0. To turn off the voltage source, we need to make it a short circuit. Look at the two 10 kΩ resistors. They are in parallel because they share the same pair of nodes. The two 10 ...

... So we can use a single resistor to replace the two resistors. The two 10 kΩ resistors have the same pair of nodes, hence they are in parallel. To combine the parallel resistors, we can take the reciprocal of the first resistance and take the reciprocal of the second one and add together, and then ta ...

Electrical ballast

An electrical ballast is a device intended to limit the amount of current in an electric circuit. A familiar and widely used example is the inductive ballast used in fluorescent lamps, to limit the current through the tube, which would otherwise rise to destructive levels due to the tube's negative resistance characteristic.Ballasts vary in design complexity. They can be as simple as a series resistor or inductor, capacitors, or a combination thereof or as complex as electronic ballasts used with fluorescent lamps and high-intensity discharge lamps.
