The corresponding population of |1i is given by η0 sin(2φτ ) = η0 sin(2(ωτ + φ)), and is plotted as a function of φ in the inset of figure 2. This dependence of the population of |1i on the initial phas ...

... As mentioned in the previous section one important feature of the T-bar is the linear polarization of the diode output. Polarization beam combining can be applied to improve beam quality by a factor of 2 and make it possible to couple the beam into a fiber with core diameter of 100 µm and a numerica ...

Atomic Spectra - Flinn Scientific

... The phenomenon of atomic spectra has been known since the mid-1800s. Their cause, however, remained unexplained until the structure of the atom and, in particular, its electronic structure, was solved. Rutherford’s discovery of the nucleus of the atom in 1911 answered many questions concerning the s ...

Self-Organization, Broken Symmetry, and Lasing in an Atomic Vapor:

... The generation of coherent short-wavelength radiation from relativistic particle beams often requires the efficient direction reversal of optical radiation such as occurs in the free-electron laser. One efficient strategy for implementing this idea is to backdiffract pump radiation from a moving ato ...

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy is a spectroscopic technique that uses ultrashort pulse lasers for the study of dynamics on extremely short time scales (attoseconds to nanoseconds). Different methods are used to examine dynamics of charge carriers, atoms and molecules. Many different procedures have been developed spanning different time scales and photon energy ranges; some common methods are listed below.
