Spider Silk: The Mother Nature`s Biological Superlens
Spider Silk: The Mother Nature`s Biological Superlens

... a ratio of 2:1 [10-12]. The spider silk has a diameter in the range of 6.8µm. The surrounding medium is Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) with a refractive index of 1.377 [12] overlaid with transparent cellulose-based, pressure sensitive tape, which acts as a birefringent retardant [13] as well as allowing f ...

The type Ia supernova 1994D in NGC 4526: the early phases The

... The type la supernova SN 1994D in NGC 4526 was extensively observed as a target of opportunity at ESO. In this paper, we present and discuss the UBVRI photometry and the spectra collected during this campaign from 11 days before maximum to about two months afterwards. Several absorption components o ...

... to ∼100 days, but not in B/J (Fig. 3). Therefore the current data of WPVS48 appear to be not fully consistent with the expectations from the KM2010 model: Firstly, if the dust sublimation front is shaped by the anisotropic illumination from the AD alone, as proposed by KM2010, one would expect that ...

L17 SHELL-SHOCKED DIFFUSION MODEL FOR THE LIGHT

... We explore a simple model for the high luminosity of SN 2006gy involving photon diffusion of shock-deposited thermal energy. The distinguishing property of the model is that the large “stellar” radius of ∼160 AU required to prevent adiabatic losses is not the true stellar radius, but rather, it is t ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
