... The spectrum of the transient as characterized by its hardness ratio is softer than that of SMC X-1; the average value was 1.14 H 0.02 compared to 1.36 H 0.01 for SMC X-1 in the 1991 observation of the uneclipsed pulsar. To characterize the spectrum in more detail, we fitted the PHD of the 1992 data ...

... Both spin and orbital angular momentum of light have been used for rotation in optical tweezers.2–5 Spin angular momentum, due to the polarisation of light, offers a maximum torque efficiency of 2h̄ per photon.6, 7 The spin component has been used to rotate both elongated and birefringent particles8–12 ...

... detrimental. For example, with a CuL source, a 50 nm feature must be exposed at a mask-tosubstrate gap of less than about 4 µm in order to maintain good process latitude. A 25 nm feature would require a gap of 1 µm. For such very small features, we eliminate the gap and use contact between the subst ...

... equations; see below. Below we present a phenomenological description of the MHD decay laws at large scales. In the case of helical fields we mostly follow the description presented in Secs. 4.2.3 and 5.3.2 of Ref. [31] and Sec. 7.3.4 of [41]. On scales below ξM , magnetic power is transferred to sm ...

... tedious to apply when problems needed to be specified at many wavelengths and were at the same time complex enough to require a larger number of layers for their solution. Also, the monitoring of the thicknesses of non-quarter wave layers was difficult then. Philip Baumeister’s 1958 paper in which h ...

The Wollaston prism splits the input wave into two: an ordinary and extraordinary one, so the optical field can be considered as two incident ...

Visible to near-infrared optical properties of pure synthetic olivine

... summarized briefly here. Olivine is an orthosilicate with a nearly hexagonally close-packed structure. It has a general formula of M1M2SiO4, where the cation sites (M1, M2) are six-coordinated (octahedral). The dominant (stoichiometric) divalent cations (Fe2+, Mg2+) occupy the octahedral cation site ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
