Optical fiber cables[edit]
Optical fiber cables[edit]

... Each fiber can carry many independent channels, each using a different wavelength of light (wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM)). The net data rate (data rate without overhead bytes) per fiber is the per-channel data rate reduced by the FEC overhead, multiplied by the number of channels (usually ...

... 1996; Fullerton 2003). Some well-observed stars were found to show periodic or cyclic behaviour on a timescale of a few days, which is comparable to the rotation timescale. In principle such variability could be related to non-radial pulsations, but as no non-radial pulsations with sufficiently long ...

Sub-wavelength grating for enhanced ring resonator biosensor

... Silicon photonic resonant cavities have been used in a variety of clinically relevant biosensing applications including nucleic acid detection [6, 16], protein biomarkers for cancer [17, 18], viral [19, 20], and environmental toxins [21]. Ring resonators have been extensively investigated as silicon ...

... • Use of filters to separate orders (high-pass red (cuting the blue) in the above example • If one wants higher dispersion, go to higher orders. But overlap of orders then unavoidable (λ shift between orders too small to use filters as separators), so one needs cross-dispersion to separate orders. N ...

... As reported by Liu, et al.9, the RI of ZnO composite changes from 1.698 to 1.718 as RH changes between 10 to 95%. When ZnO composite exposed to humid environment, it leads to rapid surface adsorption of water molecules and causes changes in optical properties. The RH value increases linearly with th ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
