Nondispersing Bohr Wave Packets - Physics (APS)

... HCP relative to the MW field is slowly scanned over many laser shots. If the HCP arrives before the MW pulse (1), we see no variation in the signal as the delay of the HCP is scanned for either polarization, as expected; the atoms are in the 72p state, an eigenstate. If the HCP arrives at (2), when ...

... These curves describe perfect parabolas. From geometrical grounds, the parameter k represents a particular light “ray” with linear trajectory (3) in the sζ -plane. The envelope (caustic) of this family of rays results from the solution given in Eq. (4) for m = 0, providing the ballistic signature of ...

In this analysis, the addition of an quarter-wave plate at the back-focal plane of the objective will leave the 0th order undiffracted light unchanged but the effect of the quarter-wave plate on the diffracted light will be to change the cos in the second term to sin, thus converting a phase-modulat ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
