Acousto-Optic Effect and Its use in Signal Processing Abstract 1

... these all share the basic principles of momentum and energy conservation, these different modes of operation have very different performances. In general, acousto-optic effects are based on the change of the refractive index of a medium due to the presence of sound waves in that medium. Sound waves ...

... OB and OM have also been studied in atomic systems confined in an optical ring cavity [19–21]. For example, Gong and co-workers [19,20] showed that the phase fluctuation of the control field leads to OB even when both fields are in resonance with the three-level atoms, and the threshold intensity ca ...

... Light is another type of _______, so the Doppler Effect applies to light as well. When a star’s light is red shifted, the star must be moving away from us. To us, almost _______ star looks red shifted, which means they are all moving away. This is only possible if the Universe is ________. The secon ...

... mounted on an automatic drive moving with a speed of 8510-6 m/s. The amount of light that can reach the diode is determined by the gap between a pair of jaws (slit) in front of it. One jaw is fixed, the other jaw is spring-loaded and thus adjustable. This input slit also determines spatial resoluti ...

Sagnac-loop phase shifter with polarization

... Fast optical phase shifters or switches based on electrooptical materials are in widespread use. Switch devices that operate on a sub-nanosecond timescale are a core building block of photonic technologies, in particular in optical communications [1], [2]. For most typical applications, the devices ...

Measurement of the transverse electric field profile of light by a self

... All of the previous techniques are self-referencing in that they do not require a reference beam. A less robust but conceptually simpler technique is that of optical homodyning [11]. In it, measurements of the TEFP can be made by mixing the field to be measured with the field of an external referenc ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
