Although they provide different information, coiled metal springs have been used for at least 500 years in a variety of machine design applications and mechanisms [1]. ... The use of complex impedances in analyzing passive AC circuits is another example of the advantages of complex notation of sinusoidal functions. The basic idea is that in an AC circuit the voltage across a passive circuit element such as a resistor, capacitor, or inductor has a magnitude proportion ...

Distortion and noise analysis The phase shifter performance can be compromised by the inherent nonlinear behavior of CPO as the harmonic distortion terms generated in the SOA device can bring a reduction in the expected microwave phase shift [24]. For a quality multi-coated riflescope, total light transmission should be over 95%. No multi-coating is 100% efficient. Since each ext ...

... Based on similarities between M7 and RRATs it was proposed that they can be different manifestations of the same type of INSs (astro-ph/0603258). To verify it a very deep search for radio emission (including RRAT-like bursts) was peformed on GBT (Kondratiev et al.). In addition, objects have been ob ...

Optimized back-focal-plane interferometry directly measures forces
Optimized back-focal-plane interferometry directly measures forces

... Measuring forces directly by means of the analysis of the angular distribution of scattered light has many advantageous features [15]. Unfortunately, the light that goes through the sample has to be captured in full, at least nominally, which is notoriously difficult with an optical trap based on a ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
